При этом recently имеет более широкую сочетаемость и определяют глаголы и причастия прошедшего времени.It was only recently (a short time ago, not long ago) that he got a police warning about dangerous driving — Совсем недавно полиция его предупредила о нарушении правил езды.
Newly обычно употребляется только атрибутивно с причастиями прошедшего времени:newly painted fence — свежевыкрашенный забор;
